Research Expertise
Jonghwan Yoon researches Modern and Contemporary Korean Literature: Poetry, Fiction, and Literary Texts.
This research establishes a framework for understanding poetic diction in Korean poetry and reconstructs the historical trajectory of Korean poetic literature through this lens.
Yoon explores the aesthetic dimensions of literary texts to investigate the structural causality between literature, society, and the unconscious.
Yoon examines intertextuality as shaped by linguistic intersections, mutual permeation across languages, and the dynamic relationship between the author and subjectivity.

• Interrogating the Fifth Republic: State, Power and Control in South Korea, 1980-1987
: this project was selected for the 4th RIKS Korean Studies Workshop selected team

Graduate Research Assistant
• studied the unconsciousness and desire of poetic subjects in the war experience from the images revealed in modern Korean poetry anthology that issued right after the Korean War
• studied the way the images of light and waves inherent in modern Korean novels intersect with asynchronous worlds and time
• studied how the beauty of language itself and the aesthetics of poetic language acquire a sort of politics in mutual relation with society
• studied the new-materialism and rhetoric about thingness in Korean poems and novels.
